Preparing Students for Jobs That Haven't Been Created Yet (Reflection Post)

This week, was one of the system wide professional developments for Cumberland County.  The topic was student centered learning with a concentration on the 4 C's (Content Knowledge, Critical Thinking, Collaboration, and Communication.)  One of the most interesting things presented to us was a video discussing how teachers must prepare students for jobs that have not been created yet.

How Do We Do Prepare for This?
As a group, the other media specialists and I discussed what we saw that needed improvement in our schools.  We all unanimously agreed that in order to take the next step and successfully prepare our students, we need to let students take hold of their own education and guide our teachers to becoming educational facilitators.  Many of our buildings are composed of teachers that still are hesitant to let go of the reigns because they feel as though this creates behavior issues.  Many of the "old school" teachers still feel as though students talking while collaborating is a problem.  The days of a classroom being so quiet that you could hear a pin drop is prehistoric.

The classroom needs to incorporate more of the 4 C's!  This means student centered learning.  No more "sit and get" lectures.

My Role as an Administrator:

When I finally become a building administrator. It's going to be important to find teachers that are able to release the reigns and understand that education has evolved.  Being tech savvy is not the most important asset, being willing to learn and grow with your students is equally important.
